Gather what you have
You do not need every document. Bring any ID you have, a lease or rent receipt if you have one, and any notice from your landlord. Missing papers? A caseworker can still help you start.
Visit or call the enrollment office
Go to the Downtown Benefits Enrollment Office (300 Civic Center Dr) or call (510) 555-0107. Walk-ins are welcome Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. Ask for the emergency rental assistance desk.
Fill out the short application
The form takes about 15 minutes. Staff will fill it out with you if you want help. You will answer questions about your income, your housing situation, and who lives with you.
Get a decision and follow up
Most people hear back within 5 business days. Write down your case number and the name of the person who helped you. If you do not hear back in a week, call and ask for a status check.
